Mr David Yong (Director)

General, Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon

Mr David Yong has been performing bariatric procedures for both public and private patients at Joondalup Health Campus since 2011. Prior to this, he completed three years of post-fellowship in Upper Gastro-intestinal (GI) and bariatric surgery at leading tertiary institutions in both Australia and New Zealand. It was during these times, Mr Yong developed an interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery for upper GI conditions as well as bariatric surgery. He firmly believes the importance and close association between upper GI surgery and bariatric surgery for the delivery of safe bariatric surgery.

Mr Yong is a member of both Australia and New Zealand Gastric and Oesophageal Association (ANZGOSA) and Obesity Surgery Society of Australia and New Zealand (OSSANZ)  

Mr David Koong
MBBS(Hons), FRACS

Clinical Senior Lecturer (University of Western Australia)

Mr David Koong has been operating at Joondalup Health Campus since January 2011. After completing his training in General Surgery, he has undergone further extensive training in laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery over 2 years in Victoria (The Geelong Hospital) which included experience with laparoscopic gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy and open roux-en-y gastric bypass surgery in 2010. He has special interests in laparoscopic upper gastrointestinal surgery for reflux and hiatal hernia surgery as well as laparoscopic colorectal surgery for both benign and malignant diseases. Other interests include gastrointestinal endoscopy, laparoscopic gallbladder and hernia surgery. Mr Koong has undergone training to gain full credentialling at Joondalup Health Campus to perform laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding. He is very excited to be practising in association with Mr David Yong and Prof Paul Moroz to provide a comprehensive, multidisciplinary service for the benefit of both WA public and private patients.  

Mr Paul Moroz

Professor of Surgery (University of Western Australia)

Professor Paul Moroz is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Western Australia. Professor Moroz completed his training in General Surgery in Western Australia before undertaking post fellowship training at St George Hospital in Sydney in 2007 where he specialised in liver surgery and surgical oncology, focussing on the treatment of disseminated peritoneal cancers involving complicated upper and lower gastrointestinal surgery. Professor Moroz continues to practice in these fields in addition to providing a comprehensive General Surgical service at Joondalup Health Campus. Professor Moroz is the director of the Western Australian Peritonectomy Service which is now based at Joondalup Health Campus and continues his appointment as Professor of Surgery at the University of Western Australia and heads surgical teaching at Joondalup Health Campus.

Professor Moroz has now extended his extensive GI surgical expertise and has undergone further training in laparoscopic gastric banding surgery and is fully credentialed to perform this procedure at Joondalup Health Campus for both public and private patients. Professor Moroz is now a member of Joondalup Bariatric Service with Mr David Yong and Mr David Koong.
